The newly appointed Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani has said that Nigeria has the digital capacity and opportunities to compete favourably with other nations of the world.
The Honourable Minister stated this at the formal reception put in place in his honour by the Ministry and its Parastatals, as he assumed office.
According to Dr. ‘Bosun “Any country in the world that is productive and prosperous is because such country has a clear strategy on digital economy and also on innovation” adding that what drives the Economy today is not only oil and gas, but digital technology.
The Honourable Minister underscored the significant importance and the positive contributions of digital technology to every sphere of our national life.
He said that “with digital technology we can ensure our society is safe and secure; what we do with digital technology will contribute to the feeding of our nation, the way people learn today and the tool with which they learn have changed”. Dr. ‘Bosun emphasized the need for discipline, and upgrade of staff competencies.
He expressed the preparedness to use technology to coordinate all services together by coming up with a policy whether from the ministry or public sector, which people can depend upon to access government services and to show the rest of governments what productivity can be.
Dr Tijani who spoke in affirmative believe that every staff of the Ministry holds the key to the future of Nigeria, the key that will determine whether the country would be prosperous or not”.
With digital technology we can ensure our society is safe and secure; what we do with digital technology will contribute to the feeding of our nation, the way people learn today and the tool with which they learn have changed.”
He said as a Ministry driving the nation’s Digital Economy, we should be able to create platforms to enable seamless business transactions across borders thereby closing the gap between the producers and buyers.
He harped on the need to collaborate because “We cannot grow technologically without collaborating with other nations of the world. We will partner with the best institutions or organizations to achieve this “.
He also expressed the willingness of the ministry to connect with the private sector and also formulate policies and regulations that can protect Nigerians against the vices that are associated with digital technology, and at the same time look at opportunities for Nigerian people to build into prosperity.
He finally said that he would look forward to working with everyone and the development partners with a view to getting the best knowledge and also connecting with the world for the greater good of the people.
Speaking earlier, the acting Permanent Secretary Dr. Famous Eseduwo, assured the Hon. Minister that the Management and staff of the Ministry are ready and willing to work with him to position Nigeria on the global digital space.
